Trying new things...
As someone who has always had the 'invisible string' pulling her towards jewellery throughout my life, it seemed only right to try and find new methods of making it, as opposed to just beads and thread.
I knew Bonnie (the founder of this event) from one of my recent markets for Native Makers. She is such a lovely, kind-hearted person, and her jewellery is equally so. So when I heard she was running wax carving workshops, I knew this was the opportunity I could not miss.
So, as anxious as I was to go to a workshop on my own, I knew the benefit of the experience would certainly overrule my initial judgment... and I was right!
I had the best time, mixing with a wonderful group of people, learning from the absolute best with a lovely cuppa by my side... no complaints to give!
Seeing and learning some of the different ways you can use wax, not even just from making my own work but by watching others too, really opened my eyes to what the world of wax can give to me as a designer. As a bonus, the pieces I made are ones I will treasure forever.
From the wax, I made two rings, one using just the green wax ring and working into it; the other, blue wax as the ring base, then the soft pink wax to shape a feature piece on top. I honestly felt like the time flew by, getting lost in my world of creation, and I would recommend to anyone wanting to try it out, to go and see Bonnie with her workshops, as the environment she holds gives you such ease and confidence, you will feel like you're just hanging out with friends and just having the best time!
